Boston Celtics Avery Bradley Has Option Picked Up: Will His Role Increase?

The Boston Celtics announced that they picked up the option of one Avery Bradley.  This should surprise no one. The Celtics got Bradley late in the 2010 draft and he in my mind was a steal. Bradley going into his freshman year of college was ranked either ahead or just behind former number one overall pick John Wall for a reason. He is fast, athletic, and a pit bull like defender. Yes, Bradley sat on the bench and did not get much of an opportunity. However, the Celtics are a veteran team trying to win a title. A rookie combo guard is not going to see a lot of minutes. However, in the few moments Bradley did play, he showed small flashes.

The man showed great tenacity on defense and had a nose for pressuring the ball. He was definitely a little on the Tony Allen side and that was great to see.  Bradley struggled running an NBA offense. These struggles should be expected from a guy that should have been a sophomore in college. In the last game of the season, Bradley topped 20 points as he showed great speed and finish at the rim. His jump shot was also solid that day. The man showed that he had paid attention in practice with that performance.

As far as his role expanding, I believe it will. Bradley is too good a defender to not get minutes. If nothing else Bradley will play a nitch role like Von Wafer did. He will push the guys in practice and earn minutes. The east has plenty of solid shooting guards and point guards. I am sure Bradley and his defensive skills will be employed by Doc Rivers. His minutes would really increase if his offensive game develops.

Bradley may have to get his game in gear. Delonte West is a free agent and the other backup point guard options on the market are not that exciting. If West does not return, then Bradley’s minutes will definitely increase. Even if a veteran comes in, Bradley would probably see the floor to keep their legs fresh and for tough defensive matchups.

The bottom line is one should not give up on Bradley. Not every player makes an impact right away like a Paul Pierce. Rajon Rondo, Glen Davis and Kendrick Perkins took time to develop and in some ways are still improving. Bradley has the talent to do the same. Danny Ainge feels that way and that is why he did not trade  or release the man. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!

The criminal complaint against Antoine Walker that was filed in 2009, accusing him of having $750,000 in debts at Caesars Palace and Red Rock has a resolution. The Las Vegas Sun reported former the former Celtics star has pleaded guilty to passing bad checks in the form of unpaid gambling debts in Las Vegas. Walker will avoid jail time, but he will be put on probation and work towards paying off the $750,000.00 debt. Walker (probably due to money issues) has been trying to revive his career in the NBA Development League. The man that won an NBA championship in Miami and starred in Boston is now gracing the small arena of the Idaho Stampede.

Let this be a lesson to those foolish NBA players that think the money will never run out. Save your money and spend it wisely. One does not need multiple homes, cars and to be fronting the bill for 70 people all the time. If a player acts like Walker, then he will have the same sad ending. I hope Antoine lands on his feet. He may not be a bright guy and his shot selection was infuriating at times, but he was a friendly player that genuinely loved playing in Boston. However, you ddo the crime, you pay the time. Boston Celtics Fan Icon Brian Scalabrine Mocks LeBron James And Mulls Options Overseas

Brian Scalabrine decided to be a guest on the 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher and Rich show on Wednesday. The former Celtic cult hero was his usual funny self. Scal decided to poke fun at the biggest piece of human excrement walking God’s green Earth in LeBron James. Scal poked fun at LeBum’s ill fated “Decision”. The red head with a big personality let his feelings be known earlier that he was mulling options to play overseas in Europe. Scal decided that he was going to have his own “Decision” to announce if and when he would be playing overseas. Scal’s comment was priceless with the punch line of “I’m taking my talents to… Barcelona!”. Even Scal can take shots at the fallen self proclaimed “King”. My how the mighty have fallen in this case.

Scal was a great personality for the Boston area. He was also a solid teammate that contributed in practice and worked hard to be prepared to play any game time minutes. He has a great basketball mind and was like another coach on the roster. His former teammates and coaches all feel that he could be a head coach some day. If Scal heads overseas, I hope he does return to Boston’s bench. It would be great to have the fan icon return with his great personality. Remember Go green Or Go Home!!!!!!!!!!.

Rajon Rondo is officially becoming a super star in this league. Rondo finally has an endorsement deal for a sneaker. Nike has inked the Celtics point guard to endorse their new Zoom Hyperfuse shoe. Rondo has an ad for this sneaker on his Facebook page if anyone is interested in checking the first ad out.

The sneakers look pretty sharp. The shoe also claims to be light weight and strong. The shoes also add stability and support to prevent ankle injuries. At least that is what Rondo and Nike are claiming. The bottom line is the kicks are nice and if half as good as advertised will help keep Rondo’s problematic ankles healthy. If they do keep his ankles healthy for a full season, Celtics Nation will be happy and great full to Nike. If all it took was stronger shoes, I will be pissed that the Cletics did not give him a pair of sneakers like these before the season.  Stay tuned for more information on Rondo ads. Boston Celtics Danny Ainge Has An Answer To An Issue In J.R. Smith

The fact remains that Doc Rivers has said that the Boston Celtics need more shooters to contend next season. They already have Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. However, after that the shooting situation gets dicey. Jeff Green will probably be back. The hope is Green will be more comfortable and thus be a more consistent shooter with a training camp and last seasons’ valuable experience with the team. The team also hopes to resign one Delonte West. A healthy West also is a great scorer that can stretch the floor. These guys are a nice start, but he team could use another shooter off the bench to make the bench more productive. The Celtics are unfortunately burdened by the salary cap. For the sake of this article, we will assume the new CBA for the NBA will have much of the same rules. This means the team will have to work with the mid level and the bi annual exceptions. This does limit the team’s ability to go after a player. This means the Jamal Crawford to Boston talk must die. However, Danny Ainge does have options. One is quite intriguing. His name is J.R. Smith.
Yes, the same J.R. Smith that has as many mental issues as tattoos is someone that Danny AInge should consider adding to the Boston Celtics. Smith is volatile and can just as easily tear a team apart as he can shoot his team into the game. He has had issues with coaches, teammates, fans, and of course the law. However, as bad as this sounds, it is actually a good thing for AInge. This is why a talented player like Smith might be had for the right bargain price.
Smith is an ultra talented player. He is a shooting machine. When he gets hot, he gets scorching hot. The man can a shoot a team to victory by himself. He has great range as he shot 39 percent from three point range. His mid range shot is great and he can drive to the basket. His defense was considered average, but who in Denver really played defense? In Boston his defense would probably be a lot better. However, does his scoring really make up for all his issues?
The answer is an emphatic YES!!!!! The reason is Boston has a great veteran leadership base with a strong head coach and strong front office. This means problem guys fall into line with he company line of anything to win Banner 18. Stephan Marbury, Rasheed Wallace, Delonte West, and Nate Robinson all were issues in other places. However, they came to Boston and they all were not only solid contributors (Marbury did have a great playoff game against Orlando) and solid citizens. Doc Rivers is a great coach that keeps his players in line. Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen are great leaders to keep guys in focus on the task at hand (unless your name is Glen Davis and have serious issues). This means that a guy like J.R. Smith could come in and flourish.
Smith would realize that this is his best shot at a title and sign a short term deal. If he contributed big, he could cash in huge like another great reserve in 08 named James Posey. If Ainge landed this sharp shooter, the bench scoring would be an issue that was a thing of the past. My guess is AInge already knows this and will be in contact with Smith’s agent. Hopefully Ainge gets it done. Remember Go Green Or Go Home!!!!!
